Reverberation Series 2008 - 2009
This body of paintings focuses on the use of colour equivalence and contrast, saturation, harmony and dissonance in order to evoke a sense of reverberation as colour encounters colour. I'm also exploring the visual phenomena that appear as a result of intentional juxtaposition of colour.
Using the stripe motif as a vehicle for painted colour, my work exploits the effects produced as varying colours meet including the appearance of both anticipated and unanticipated colours produced as colours blend between stripes.
Composition and canvas subsection promote transition between colours, both delaying and accelerating the viewing experience, allowing repose, respite and movement.
The colours utilised are mixed in acrylic paint to match colours that have been digitally extracted from photographs of natural resources - glorious organic colour.
These colours, derived from natural phenomena in local landscape - optically referencing sensations of real place and time - often evoke a sense of recognition in the viewer.
